Position Overview: Section Manager – Engineering

We are seeking a Section Manager to lead a team within a professional or technical discipline, managing the design, development, and delivery of project tasks. This role involves overseeing project scope, budget, and quality, while also ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet client needs.

This position includes mentoring team members, promoting staff development, and ensuring high standards of service delivery. The Section Manager typically supervises 7–10 employees directly or indirectly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the section’s operating budget in alignment with office and group forecasts.
  • Lead the growth and professional development of the section, assigning staff to projects and setting priorities.
  • Collaborate across departments to support work-sharing opportunities.
  • Align section efforts with HNTB’s strategic plan and Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) in project pursuits.
  • Support contracting processes (SCA), including reviewing scopes, work plans, and fees.
  • Ensure adherence to project delivery standards (SDA), including work planning and monthly reviews.
  • Contribute to business development activities such as proposals, client meetings, and presentations.
  • Maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain talent while conducting performance evaluations and succession planning.
  • Lead or participate in technical tasks such as research, design, specifications, and plan development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • 10 years of experience in the field
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
