Senior Software Architect – Performance & Bottleneck Strategy | Vanguard

Vanguard is looking for a Senior Software Architect to lead the charge in designing a strategic, enterprise-wide solution for identifying and resolving software bottlenecks—especially within our modern cloud-based applications.

What You’ll Do:

Define the Strategy: Develop and roll out a clear, effective approach for identifying, analyzing, and fixing software performance issues across cloud-native and modernized systems.

Design the Solution: Architect a scalable, central platform that engineering and product teams across the company can rely on for bottleneck detection and performance insights.

Implement Observability: Introduce modern observability and code profiling tools tailored for Java and Node.js applications, ensuring deep visibility into performance.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with engineers, product managers, and operations to ensure your solutions align with real-world needs and drive results.

Drive Optimization: Lead initiatives to enhance application performance and reliability, particularly in distributed and cloud environments.

Lead Technically: Act as a mentor and guide for engineering teams, fostering a performance-driven engineering culture.

Evaluate Tools: Identify, evaluate, and recommend industry-leading tools for observability, profiling, and optimization.

Document Best Practices: Create and maintain clear documentation including architecture diagrams, guides, and troubleshooting playbooks.

Train & Empower: Conduct workshops and training sessions to help teams adopt best practices in performance tuning and system monitoring.

Monitor & Report: Establish metrics and reporting systems to track the impact of your strategy and ensure continued effectiveness.

What You’ll Bring:

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with 3+ years as a technology architect.
• Deep experience in Java and Node.js environments.
• Proven expertise in system performance analysis, profiling, and optimization.
• Strong background in cloud-native architectures and modern observability tools.
• A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills to work with teams across an enterprise.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
