This role involves managing projects throughout their full lifecycle—from developing proposal scopes and technical documents to participating in contract negotiations and overseeing project delivery. Your work will help ensure HNTB’s commitment to the “4 for 4” standard: delivering quality, on-time, on-budget, and client-satisfying results. You’ll manage the project’s budget, schedule, technical needs, and client communication while leading the project team to success. This position may involve managing one or more strategic projects under $1M or serving as a discipline lead on mini-mega projects ($1M to <$5M).

What You’ll Do

• Develop project scopes and fee quotations, assisting in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts, in line with HNTB’s sophisticated contracting approach (SCA).
• Act as the primary client liaison, managing the project team to deliver on scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring client satisfaction. Assist with project scoping and contract negotiations.
• Perform technical tasks related to analysis, design, specifications, and production for assigned projects.
• Implement HNTB’s project delivery plan and lead the execution of the project management plan. Mentor team members to meet project objectives.
• Coordinate with managers on project staffing, recruitment, retention, and development. Support performance and compensation reviews for project staff.
• Collaborate with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions on business development, building client relationships, and pursuing strategic and mini-mega projects.
• Work with project teams and marketing to prepare proposal and presentation materials. Lead proposal development and client interviews for strategic and mini-mega projects.
• May be involved in the recruitment, development, and retention of staff, as well as staff performance and compensation management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience.
• 2 years of task management or Deputy Project Management experience.

What You’ll Bring

• Successful track record of delivering smaller projects on-time, on-budget, with quality results and client satisfaction.
• Ability to identify and escalate risks or issues related to project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Leadership experience managing a project team or task order with minimal subconsultants.
• Proficiency with project management systems to monitor and manage smaller projects or task orders.
• Collaboration with Office Management teams to implement HNTB’s sophisticated processes where applicable.
• Ability to interface with client-level peers for smaller projects or task orders.
• Provide technical guidance to the team and task leads while also performing technical work.

What We Prefer

• Master’s degree in Engineering.
• 10-15 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• 2-4 years of Project Management experience, particularly in Transportation/Highway/Roadway.
• Experience with NJDOT, NJTA, and NJ Transit.
