What We’re Looking For
HNTB’s Raleigh, NC office is seeking a Roadway Project Manager I to join our growing Roadway Design team.

Our team is engaged in some of North Carolina’s most dynamic infrastructure projects with clients such as NCDOT, the City of Raleigh, and other local municipalities. We’re committed to improving communities through innovative transportation solutions that enhance transit, pedestrian, and bicycle mobility.

As a Roadway Project Manager, you’ll lead the delivery of transportation engineering projects—from intersection improvements to large-scale interchanges, multimodal corridors, bridge replacements, grade separations, and feasibility studies. You’ll oversee all aspects of project execution, from proposal development to final delivery, ensuring every project meets HNTB’s “4 for 4” commitment: quality work, delivered on time, within budget, and with client satisfaction.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead project planning, scope development, and fee proposals
  • Serve as the primary liaison with clients and manage teams to deliver on scope, schedule, and budget
  • Oversee technical aspects including design, analysis, reports, and specifications
  • Apply HNTB’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) to execute projects
  • Mentor and supervise team members, supporting staffing, development, and succession planning
  • Collaborate with business development teams to build client relationships and win new work
  • Guide proposal development and participate in interviews and industry presentations
  • Perform other duties as needed

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience
  • At least 2 years in task management or Deputy PM roles

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience leading and delivering projects that meet the 4for4 performance goals
  • Ability to identify project risks and manage changes with senior guidance
  • Proven leadership across multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Proficiency with project management systems and tools
  • Strong client communication and technical mentorship skills

What We Prefer

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • North Carolina PE license
