Job Summary

In this role, you’ll spearhead the creation and delivery of engine control software features that meet program goals and regulatory standards. Collaborating with a skilled cross-functional team, you’ll own the process from algorithm design to implementation and validation. Beyond immediate project needs, you’ll align features with emerging tech trends, partnering with our advanced engineering team to roadmap enhancements and new functionalities.

Job Responsibilities

Core Purpose:
Develop and deliver model-based design (MBD) functions for the engine control module, from concept to production.

Key Deliverables:

• Create next-generation engine algorithms by collaborating with stakeholders, benchmarking products, and leveraging industry standards.
• Break down vehicle-level requirements into electrical, component, and software specifications.
• Lead evaluations (physical and virtual) to ensure software designs meet program milestones with confidence.
• Partner with Reliability & Validation Engineers to verify features through traceable requirements, test cases, and comprehensive testing methods.
• Build software verification plans to deliver intuitive, robust features at launch.
• Tackle technical challenges with problem-solving skills, coordinating support across Engineering and Test teams.
• Support vehicle integration, regulatory approvals, pre-production builds, and launch activities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience Requirements

We’re looking for someone with at least 8 years of relevant design engineering experience, plus:

• Proven expertise in model-based software design and development, from concept to production.
• Understanding of whole-vehicle systems and their impact on engine control strategies and software integration.
• Deep knowledge of four-stroke engine control methods, with an eye toward future technologies.
• Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and implement optimal solutions.
• Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems and combustion principles to guide component and signal conditioning choices.
• Passion for motor vehicle engineering (auto, motorcycle, truck, etc.), with hands-on experience a plus.
• Experience writing requirements, creating test cases, and ensuring traceability, ideally aligned with ISO 26262 functional safety standards.
• Background in quality engineering tools like DFMEAs and Design Validation Plans.
• Track record of supporting production software releases and service diagnostics.
• Success leading cross-functional teams and suppliers to hit quality and performance targets, even without direct authority.
• Clear, concise communication skills across all levels of an organization.
• Comfort working with diverse global teams and external partners.

Preferred Experience:

• Knowledge of engine dynamics (V-twin engines a bonus).
• Practical application of control theory.
• Familiarity with vehicle functions like cruise control, traction control, or torque demand generation.
• Engine testing on dynamometers.
• On-vehicle testing, calibration, or feature evaluation.
• High-performance motorcycle riding skills.

Pay Range: $119,200 – $190,800 (national average; actual pay varies by location and experience).
