Traffic Engineering Manager – Boston Office

We are currently seeking a Traffic Engineering Manager to lead a team of 3 to 6 traffic engineers in our Boston office. This role will involve providing technical expertise, managing, and delivering transportation and traffic engineering projects, from the conceptual stage through to design and construction. Our team is responsible for delivering some of the largest and most intricate transportation projects in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. As a technical leader, you will play a key role in winning and delivering projects for public agency clients while mentoring and developing less experienced staff.

About the Team
Our growing traffic engineering team has worked on a wide range of local projects, from intersection safety improvements and complete street corridor upgrades to system interchange reconstructions. Recent projects include the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project in Hopkinton/Westborough/Southborough, and the I-90 over Foss Reservoir Rehabilitation in Framingham.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage the section’s operating budget, ensuring alignment with the group or office forecast.
• Lead and mentor a team of traffic engineers, overseeing their professional growth and development.
• Collaborate with other departments within the office to identify work-sharing opportunities and ensure staff development.
• Contribute to the firm’s strategic plan and project pursuits, including strategic planning and proposal generation.
• Support project delivery, including scope, work plans, fee reviews, and project performance to ensure client satisfaction.
• Maintain strong client relationships to foster continued satisfaction and business growth.
• Oversee recruitment and retention of team members, conducting performance evaluations and providing guidance on career progression.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality, including technical tasks like research, reports, and plan preparation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 8 years of experience, including 2 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience in traffic design and analysis, including the ability to manage and deliver transportation projects.
• Expertise in providing technical advice, mentoring staff, and leading multi-disciplinary projects.
• Experience with concept-level design solutions for corridors, intersections, and interchanges.
• Strong problem-solving skills, particularly on complex transportation and traffic assignments.
• Ability to coordinate with other disciplines such as Highway, Environmental, and Structural engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Massachusetts or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
• Proficiency with traffic analysis software such as Synchro, Sidra, HCS, and VISSIM.
• 10+ years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation projects.
• Significant technical depth in traffic analysis and transportation engineering.
• Experience working with MassDOT (RIDOT experience is a plus).
• Enjoys mentoring and guiding less experienced staff throughout the design process.
