Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Department: Emergency Care
Purpose:
The RN in Emergency Care delivers and oversees safe, effective, and culturally sensitive patient care for individuals of all ages needing stabilization or resuscitation. Key responsibilities include assessing patient needs, diagnosing conditions, identifying outcomes, planning and implementing care, and evaluating results using critical thinking and evidence-based practices. The role involves triaging and prioritizing care, providing crisis intervention for specific groups (e.g., sexual assault survivors), preparing for emergency operations, adhering to ANA Professional Practice Standards, and contributing to quality monitoring and performance improvement efforts.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This role involves some oversight of work coordination, such as scheduling or assigning tasks. The RN ensures work quality and provides guidance, training, and direction to others. While formal supervisory authority isn’t required, the employee may serve as a group leader or informal assistant supervisor, offering input on human resources matters as needed.
Materials Responsibility:
Responsibility for material resources (e.g., supplies, equipment, small budgets) is limited. The RN has minimal control over these assets, and errors result in modest consequences like waste or financial loss. Challenges with resources are straightforward, and while their volume may fluctuate, managing them remains uncomplicated.
Key Relationships:
Interactions involve co-workers, health system staff, external agencies, healthcare providers, the public, visitors, volunteers, physicians, medical office personnel, students, interns, residents, instructors, patients, families, and significant others.
Education: Associate’s Degree
Field of Study: Nursing
Special Training: Basic Life Support; ACLS; PALS; TNCC (within 1 year); ECRN (within 18 months)
Preferred Training: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, TNS
Licensure/Registration: Registered Nurse in Illinois; Registered Nurse in Iowa (within 1 year)
Experience: No prior experience required
Interpersonal Skills:
The role requires engaging with diverse individuals inside and outside the organization. Communications are moderately complex and sensitive, often involving detailed discussions or information exchanges. A moderate level of interpersonal ability is needed to navigate complicated or stressful situations effectively.
Working Conditions:
Routine exposure to challenging environmental conditions—such as physical hazards, health risks, or safety concerns—is expected. Safety equipment and precautions are essential, with exposure occurring up to 70% of the workday.

Pay Range: $32.25 – $49.00 per hour
Compensation within this range varies based on factors like experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certifications, and comparisons to peers in similar roles.
