We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in transportation engineering, particularly in Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) projects. You should be confident leading plan development efforts, mentoring junior staff, and proficient in OpenRoads Designer.
Role Overview
In this position, you will be responsible for producing and updating design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and project specifications. You’ll collaborate closely with project managers to research, design, and deliver high-quality solutions. Using your technical expertise, you’ll help resolve design challenges, contribute creative ideas, and ensure work meets project schedules.
Your work will include developing both conceptual and detailed designs supported by the latest tools and software. As a senior member of the team, you’ll also guide and review the work of junior engineers, providing constructive feedback to help them grow professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and assign discipline-specific tasks, ensuring work stays on schedule and within budget.
- Assist with proposal development and other marketing activities.
- Help define the scope of work and required effort for projects and assignments.
- Review the team’s work for accuracy and completeness, offering guidance to meet project goals.
- Coordinate technical project aspects with clients and partners.
- Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 6 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree with 5 years of experience, or
- PhD with 4 years of experience
What You’ll Bring
- Experience leading transportation infrastructure projects from initial concepts to final design.
- Skilled in coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to achieve project milestones and maintain budgets.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and designers, encouraging technical development and teamwork.
- Proficiency in preparing and reviewing engineering plans, specifications, and estimates in line with GDOT requirements.
- Strong skills in OpenRoads Designer for roadway design, modeling, and plan production.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
- Support for project managers with technical expertise, quality control, and client presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 4 years working on GDOT projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Active participation in professional associations like ASHE, ASCE, or ITE.
