This role will involve producing and modifying design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. You will collaborate closely with the project manager to conduct research, development, calculations, design, and project delivery. Applying engineering techniques and design criteria, you’ll work on projects of varying size and complexity, tackling design challenges through creative problem-solving, client interactions, and meeting project deadlines. You will create both conceptual and detailed designs and calculations using current technical tools and software. Additionally, you may mentor junior engineers and provide constructive feedback. As part of the team, your contributions will be integral to the successful completion of diverse projects for HNTB’s clients.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage planning and distribution of discipline-specific tasks, ensuring adherence to project schedule and budget.
- Support marketing efforts, including proposal generation.
- Contribute to developing the scope of work and defining project effort levels.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of the project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guide and mentor the team towards achieving overall project goals.
- Coordinate technical project aspects with client representatives and partners at the staff level.
- Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
What You’ll Bring:
- Understanding of how decisions impact technical design and project planning.
- Effective coordination of work planning and design across multiple technical disciplines.
- Ability to prepare high-quality deliverables that meet deadlines, budgets, and project scope.
What We Prefer:
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- 8 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline).

Salary Range:
Maryland: $98,332.76 – $153,802.53 (actual compensation will depend on factors such as qualifications, experience, and location).
Washington, DC: $107,697.79 – $168,450.39 (actual compensation will depend on factors such as qualifications, experience, and location).
