In this role, you will manage assigned projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from developing the scope and technical aspects of proposals to participating in contract negotiations and overseeing the project plan’s delivery. You’ll ensure the successful completion of projects by meeting HNTB’s “4 for 4” performance standards: delivering quality work, on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction. This position proactively manages the budget, schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communication, while supporting the project’s goals. You will provide high-level technical oversight, reviewing design specifications, calculations, reports, and plans, and coordinating with internal and external teams to address and resolve design-related issues. The Project Manager II – Engineering typically oversees multi-disciplinary teams for projects ranging from small (<$1M) to mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) projects, or may lead or serve as a discipline lead on mega ($5M to < $25M) project management teams.

What You’ll Do:

• Develop the project scope and fee quotations and assist in preparing technical proposals and contracts according to HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
• Lead or participate in client contract scoping and negotiations.
• Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to ensure scope, schedule, and budget are met, delivering client satisfaction.
• Perform technical discipline tasks such as analysis, reports, design, specifications, and production for assigned projects.
• Implement HNTB’s project delivery plan using the Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Lead the development and execution of the project management plan and supervise the team to meet project objectives.
• Oversee project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, and succession planning for project staff, as well as performance and compensation reviews.
• Collaborate with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions on business development, client relationship building, and pursuit efforts for mini-mega and mega projects using HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Assist in preparing proposals and presentation materials and lead proposal development and interviews.
• Potentially manage the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including overseeing staff reporting, performance reviews, and succession planning.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience
• Minimum of 2 years managing engineering projects successfully
• Focus on project management for multidisciplinary transportation projects and leadership in electrical tasks, including power distribution, movable bridges, lighting, communications, and security systems (e.g., card access, CCTV)
• Expertise in business development and client management to drive the growth of the Electrical Department

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

• Master’s degree in Engineering
• A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering design and construction support services in the Transportation industry
• In-depth knowledge of the Transportation industry and proven success in building client relationships and delivering projects
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification
