JOB SUMMARY

The McCarton Foundation is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. Working closely with a dynamic group of teachers, Speech, Occupational, and ABA Therapists, the Special Education Teacher will oversee one of our ABA classrooms. These classrooms support children aged 2-3 diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other global developmental delays.

Our autism program provides 1:1 highly individualized ABA instruction based on child-specific goals, informed by thorough assessments and ongoing data collection. We employ applied verbal behavior, discrete trial instruction, and a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes speech and occupational therapists, as well as a licensed psychologist.

Responsibilities:

• Implement individualized programs based on the principles of applied behavior analysis, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy
• Conduct intake and ongoing assessments of students’ needs and progress
• Collect data on children’s behaviors, progress, and performance
• Lead group activities and provide group instruction
• Participate in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans
• Attend and contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings
• Supervise and train teaching assistants, student teachers, and interns
• Provide regular observations and feedback for teaching assistants, student teachers, and interns
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions
• Complete progress reports for parent-teacher meetings

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
• New York State Certified Special Education Teacher (Birth-2nd Grade, TSSLD, TSHH, LMSW, LCSW, NP, RN, LPN)
• At least 1 year of experience as a lead teacher, preferably in a classroom setting
• ABA experience is a strong plus
• Certification as a Teacher for Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) is a plus
• Experience working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Early Intervention (EI) is preferred

Salary:
$90,000 – $110,000

Schedule:
7:50 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday
Full-time, 12-month position

The McCarton Foundation has been transforming the lives of children with developmental disabilities for over two decades. Founded by Dr. Cecelia McCarton, the McCarton Center for Developmental Pediatrics pioneered an integrated model that brought together developmental pediatricians, ABA therapists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists under one roof. Since then, our programs, including the McCarton School (now Keswell) and Children’s Academy, have served thousands of children with autism and speech/language delays.

In 2018, we launched our first public program, McCarton Center Bronx, to bring our world-class services to underserved communities. Using our integrated treatment model, we combine ABA, speech and language therapy, motor skills therapy, socialization, and developmental play. Since its inception, we have helped over 1,500 children, and we continue to grow in our commitment to changing lives.
