Position Overview

The Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry-level role in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This position involves the provision and coordination of competent care for an assigned group of patients, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. You will work alongside RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians to deliver high-quality patient care. As a member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, you will participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement initiatives that contribute to patient care outcomes and facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

All duties will be performed in alignment with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, nursing standards, and state/federal regulations. Responsibilities include:

• Provide direct care under the direction of a Supervisor and with support from Clinical Educators or Preceptors.
• Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment; adjust treatment plans as necessary and notify appropriate team members.
• Assess and document patient and family learning needs, offering ongoing education.
• Work with the care team to deliver safe and effective hemodialysis therapy.
• Administer prescribed medications and document effectiveness.
• Assist with emergency response measures when necessary.
• Serve as a resource for the healthcare team and help orient new staff.
• Ensure proper lab collection, processing, and shipping of samples.
• Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team to update the nursing assessment and care plan.
• Educate patients about transplant and treatment options.
• Complete CAP requirements to advance in the program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role involves direct patient care, which may include heavy lifting, patient movement, and assistance with ambulation. Equipment aids and coworker assistance are available. The position requires prolonged periods of standing, bending, and occasional lifting of machines (up to 200 lbs.) and chemicals (up to 30 lbs.).

Work occurs in a healthcare facility with air-controlled temperatures and moderate noise levels. The role may involve exposure to infectious diseases. Daily tasks include desk work, computer use, and patient and staff interaction.

Travel to training sites or other facilities may be required.

Supervision

As a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge, you will oversee Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and other RNs after meeting the following criteria:

• Completion of all FKC education and training requirements for new employees.
• A minimum of 9 months as a Registered Nurse.
• A minimum of 3 months of chronic/acute hemodialysis experience.

Education and Licensure

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
• Must possess either a CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate, NCLEX pass letter, or an active RN license in the state of intended employment.
• Current state licensure and CPR BLS certification required.
• Must meet practice requirements for the state in which employed.

Experience and Skills

• A minimum of 9 months as a Registered Nurse is preferred, but not required.
• Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience is preferred.
